Sedlescombe Parish Council introduced an occasional Citizenship Award in 2003.
The first recipient was the late Jeanne Fellows who had been involved in the running of the Sedlescombe Village Library for fifty years.
Three ladies were the next to receive the Citizenship Award for their outstanding service to Sedlescombe over so many years. They are always to be found at any fund-raising event, often in the kitchen. They are also dedicated workers in arranging the annual fete. These are Rosemary Farley, Margaret Hudson and Sylvia Beaney.
In 2009, it was the turn of the gentlemen. The late John Kemp was well-known for his good neighbourliness and for his work in the Village particularly for the Garden Society.
Bob Harris was also presented with a Citizenship Award for his work including his dedication to fund-raising in Sedlescombe, the Garden Society, the British Legion, the Bowls Club and Neighbourhood Watch.
In 2011, a very popular and well-known couple were presented with the Award at the Annual Parish Assembly. The couple were Jenny and John Mainwood who have run Sedlescombe's Shop and Post Office for more than ten years improving it considerably over that time and introducing ancillary services such as a photocopying and laminating.
