Hazardous Trees on A21. We have received notice from the Highways Agency that they are proposing to carry out tree work on the A21 between Flimwell and Hastings. The work will start on Monday 9 March and continue for four and a half weeks. During the work, a single lane closure with two or three way temporary traffic lights will be in operation. In order to minimise disruption, the work will take place off peak between 0930 and 1600. Once any felling is completed, noticeable gaps will be filled with replanting.
Safer Rother Partnership. Rother residents can have their say on crime in the district and hold local decision-makers to account by visiting the Safer Rother Partnership’s ‘Face the People’ event on Tuesday 3rd March.

The Partnership is inviting residents to say what they think about crime and anti-social behaviour in Rother and, in doing so, to shape future priorities for crime reduction in the area.

At the Town Hall in Bexhill, between 4pm and 7.30pm on Tuesday 3rd March, representatives of each statutory partner – Sussex Police, Rother District Council, East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service, Hastings & Rother Primary Care Trust, Sussex Police Authority and East Sussex County Council – will be available to hear residents’ comments and concerns, as well as to answer any questions residents may have about community safety in Rother.

During the event presentations will be made to local residents who have made a significant contribution to reducing crime and the fear of crime in Rother over the last 12 months. Light refreshments will be available.

Chief Inspector Heather Keating, chair of the Safer Rother Partnership, said, “This is a great opportunity for our residents to speak to the people who make decisions about community safety in the district, to ask any questions, to find out more about how we are working together to tackle crime in Rother.”

Carriageway resurfacing. The Parish Council has been contacted by concerned people about whether it is essential to effectively close off the southern access to Sedlescombe Village. Information has been received from the County Council that resurfacing work will include the part of the B2244 on the bend that includes the junctions of Chapel Hill/ Pestalozzi/sportsfield entrances and the river bridge. Closure will be limited as far as possible.

Notice has been received that East Sussex Highways will be carrying out carriageway resurfacing works on the B2244 Paygate Road and C22 Chapel Hill, Sedlescombe between 16 and 20 February 2009.

Due to the nature of the road layout and size of the plant required to carry out the works there is no alternative but to seek temporary road closures as follows:

  • C22 Chapel Hill from its junction with B2244 The Street/Paygate Road in a southerly direction to its junction with C22 Crazy Lane/Westfield Road, a distance of 362 metres.

The temporary road closures will come into effect on 16 February 2009 until 20 February 2009. A diversion route will be signed and maintained for the duration of the works as follows:-

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians along the road to be closed and vehicular access for residents should be possible, but may be restricted at times.

Passenger Transport has been contacted regarding these works.
