A21/B2244 Sedlescombe Junction. Following the last Parish Council meeting when parish councillors expressed their concern about the new junction layout at Blackbrooks, a letter was sent to Interroute asking for an urgent meeting.

The following reply was received on 20/03/09:

"Thank you for your email dated the 11 March 2009 regarding the above.

The changes at this junction were implemented following a number of fatal accidents that occurred as a result of the previous layout.

Although the   majority of the works are complete, some minor remedial works will commence on 30 March 2009 and last 2 nights to install a “Give Way” sign, verge markings and advance directional signage.

Following the completion of the works a safety audit will be carried out to look at the junction as a whole, and your concerns will be taken into account at this time.

Please be assured that we acknowledge the concerns of the residents of Sedlescombe, however, until the remaining works are complete and the safety audit has been carried we are unable to comment further in this regard.

It is not felt that arranging a meeting will be beneficial at this time, however, I will keep you updated on the progress of this issue."

Quality Council Re-accreditation. The Parish Council is pleased to announce that its Quality Council status has recently received re-accreditation. Sedlescombe was the first parish or town council in the Rother District to obtain quality status originally in 2004, soon after the scheme was introduced by the government. The status is regularly reviewed to ensure that Quality Councils are still eligible to hold the title. This involves the production of a portfolio of work which is considered by a panel of judges. The other councils that currently hold quality status in Rother are Rye, Crowhurst and Battle.
Hazardous Trees on A21. We have received notice from the Highways Agency that they are proposing to carry out tree work on the A21 between Flimwell and Hastings. The work will start on Monday 9 March and continue for four and a half weeks. During the work, a single lane closure with two or three way temporary traffic lights will be in operation. In order to minimise disruption, the work will take place off peak between 0930 and 1600. Once any felling is completed, noticeable gaps will be filled with replanting.
