Fund-raising for St Michaels Hospice. A profit of £1,000 was made at the Autumn Fayre held in the garden of the Queen's Head last Saturday afternoon. Many thanks to all who helped in any way to make this Fayre such a great success.
Village of the Year Competition. Following Sedlescombe's success in being awarded "East Sussex Village of the Year" in July, the judges for the southern region round visited on Monday 28 September. With just two hours to explain how Sedlescombe tackles issues under the categories of community, business, sustainability and communication, it was decided that the judges would stay within the village hall and speak to as many people as possible. Many thanks to all those who accepted the invitation to speak to the judges and for building such a good picture of our Village. In all, the judges have got 8 villages from the counties in the region to visit this week before they make their decision.
Bus Service Information. A new range of timetable leaflets is now available for Rider bus services which are funded by East Sussex County Council.
MacMillan Cancer Support. The Parish Council has been asked to publicise the fund-raising coffee mornings that are held each year in September across the country. There is still time to arrange a coffee morning in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support. The official date is Friday 25 September and, whether you raise £10 or £200, every penny will make a difference. You can register by visiting where much more information is available.

Sedlescombe's Pump and Pumphouse. Richard Williams is the compiler of the National Index of Village Pumps and, although he has recorded and seen pictures of more than 2,500 pumps, he has not seen one like Sedlescombe's disused one on the village green. He describes it as "unusual" and the shelter over it as "imposing".

Richard's correspondence this month with the Clerk concerning the pump and pumphouse was very timely as the Parish Council's Heritage Committee is currently considering what to do to refurbish these important parts of the Village's heritage. The useful information included on the village pumps website will be an enormous help.

If you have any comments to make before any work is undertaken, please contact the Clerk on 01424 870508 or e-mail

New powers re dog fouling and littering. Sedlescombe Parish Council has asked in the past for PCSOs to have the power to hand out fixed penalty notices on behalf of Rother District Council to anyone who lets their dog foul in a public place. This has just been introduced following a new agreement between Rother Council and the police. PCSOs can also issue notices to anyone seen littering in the district. The scheme to give the new powers to PCSOs will have a six-month trial.
New powers for PCSOs
Swine Flu. Although not so much has been heard lately about the Swine Flu outbreak, Rother has a useful webpage if you should need it.
