East Sussex Fair Trading. On July 31st 2012 at Brighton County Court, East Sussex County Council’s Trading Standards Service took action under the Enterprise Act 2002 and successfully obtained undertakings from a local trader.
The East Sussex based trader, Elsinore Garage and Company Ltd, which trades as Car Hire UK, runs a web based car hire business.  The company generated a large number of complaints from around the world regarding its failure to return deposits taken from consumers to cover any accident damage and traffic violations, and for not making its ‘Terms and Conditions’ clear.
The proceedings resulted in the company giving undertakings to the court that it would respond to all complaints in a timely manner and give a timetable to consumers for the resolution of their complaints.  It also gave an undertaking that it would amend its terms and conditions as directed by the court.
Trading Standards will continue to monitor the activities of the company to ensure that it complies with the terms of the undertakings.
Councillor Matthew Lock, the County’s lead member for economy said: “Companies that conduct business in this way give local trade a bad name. This is a very satisfying outcome for us and one that should protect people here in the UK and abroad.”

Grass cutting in 2012. The difficult weather conditions coupled with the need to reduce the cost of grass cutting in East Sussex have resulted in noticeable changes to our grass verges. The Sussex Wildlife Trust comments on the benefits for wildlife.

Stay warm and healthy this winter
The new Energy Advice Centre in Bexhill believe that there are still 1000's of un-insulated homes and flats in Bexhill, Rother and Hastings that could all benefit from the Free loft and cavity wall insulation scheme that ends this year.

"The scheme is open to everyone and could save an average house over £ 300 a year in energy bills", say the Energy Centre." we want to get the message to everyone through their friends, relatives and neighbours that now is the time to do it."  The UK ranks as the third worst in Europe for unnecessary cold-related deaths and the elderly and young families are particularly vulnerable.
