Declarations at meetings

To Sedlescombe Parish Councillors
Please take the following action for every Council or Committee Meeting
  1. Read the Agenda and note any items
    1. on which you have declared an interest on your interest form; or
    2. where you have an interest because it affects the well-being or finances of you, your family or close associates more than other people who live in the area affected by the issue.
  2. Consider whether your interest in an agenda item is personal or personal/prejudicial. It is prejudicial if it affects your, your family's or close associate's finances, regulatory functions eg licensing, planning AND A REASONABLE MEMBER OF THE PUBLIC WITH KNOWLEDGE OF THE FACTS WOULD BELIEVE IT LIKELY TO HARM OR IMPAIR YOUR ABILITY TO JUDGE THE PUBLIC INTEREST.
  1. When the agenda item "Declarations of existence and nature of councillors'" is announced, declare any personal or personal/prejudicial interests giving reasons (subject to exceptions). Please limit your declarations to items on the agenda.
  2. If you consider your interest is prejudicial (see above):
    1. You may, if you wish, inform the Chairman that you want to speak on the item.
    2. The Chairman will (at his or her discretion) inform you when you will be able to speak.
    3. You will have to leave the meeting before any member of the public speaks on the same subject and before the matter is debated by the Council or Committee.
  3. All councillors should declare their personal/prejudicial interests when the Sedlescombe Playing Field and Recreation Ground Trust is on the agenda eg playground reports but state that you have been granted exemption by Rother District Council allowing you to take part in the agenda item.
