East View Terrace and Conqueror Terrace
Tuesday 11th July 2006
Present: Craig Atkins (Orbit Homes), Ian Morris (resident), Emma Barker (BUZZ Project/Action in rural Sussex) and 11 residents.
Apologies: Angela Sharman (Rother Homes), Julie Powell (YDS).
Craig welcomed everyone to the meeting and did introductions.
Craig explained that he had been working in the village for a year and that he and Angela Sharman had been looking at what works and what doesn’t in the location.
Emma explained that she was from a project called BUZZ that works with young people and volunteers that work with young people in the rural villages in rural Rother and East Wealden. That the project promotes young people having a voice in their community.
This was the first Annual General Meeting to be held, craig explained the idea of having a residents committee is that it gives the residents the opportunity to say what they would like the housing associations to do.
Craig explained that a group of Agencies had been meeting regularly to look at how best to support the village. The Agencies currently involved are YDS,Orbit Homes, Rother District Council, Community Support Police Officers, The BUZZ Project(Action in rural Sussex) and The Anti-social Behaviour Officer. These Agencies have been looking at funding opportunities.
Craig then read through the amended Constitution and explained that Young people aged 16years and above could attend the committee meetings but that it was only one vote per house hold.
The committee was elected they are as follows:
Vice Chair-Stella Wright
Structure of future meetings
The residents need to decide whether they want outside Agencies to attend future meetings. Craig acknowledged that they might not want Craig to attend as in his role he could not be impartial.
Orbit has paid for the hire of the scout hall for 10 meetings, although 5 have already taken place. A discussion followed about appropriate places to hold meetings.
It was suggested that residents might want to ask Angela Sharman whether Rother Homes had any money available to pay for future hire costs.
It was felt that the meetings should be respectful to those that are not Orbit residents and that maybe there should be a sub-committee to discuss issues that residents might have regarding Orbit.
Craig informed the group that there was a forum in Hastings on the 17th July at the Hastings University Centre and that a representative from the association would be welcome to attend.
Craig to support the Association to set up a bank account.
Craig to ask that the housing officer for Rother homes attend a meeting.
Social Events and Fundraising
Craig explained that money was available to charities and residents Associations, B&Q were used as an example as they give paint to charities and groups like residents associations.
Craig explained that there were lots of opportunities out there for groups like this and discussed ideas for events. He explained that there was also training available. Craig informed them of a group funded through Rother Homes called the Changing Room project. This is a group that would come out help residents to renovate for example the scout hut.
Date of the next meeting.
The date for another meeting was not arranged as they needed to confirm when the scout hall was available. It was agreed that meetings would be monthly.
