PARISH CLERK / RFO SEDLESCOMBE PARISH COUNCIL
25-30 HOURS PER WEEK

Applications are invited from a confident person with an interest in the local community to fill the post of Clerk to Sedlescombe Parish Council. This permanent and pensionable position is home based and for 25-30 hours per week. Applicants must be willing to work flexible hours which will include attendance at meetings mostly on a Tuesday evening, but also some in the daytime.

The person appointed will be responsible for legal, administrative and management aspects of the Council’s affairs and act as Responsible Financial Officer and Website Manager. Ideally the successful candidate will have a good knowledge of Sedlescombe and local government practices. An ability to work on one’s own initiative and to be able to communicate effectively with members of the public, councillors and local government officers is essential as is being very well organised. In addition being competent with word and excel and an ability to learn other software used in the job is required.

The Clerk’s responsibilities include producing agendas, minutes, and all written reports for meetings of the Council, its Committees and its Advisory Committees, actioning the Council’s decisions, operating the Council’s budget and preparing financial reports, dealing with PAYE and VAT and managing the Council’s property and facilities. Answering questions from the public and keeping councillors up-to date is also an integral part of the job. Applicants should have, or be prepared to obtain, the Certificate in Local Council Administration and to undertake all necessary training.

The salary depending on experience - LC2 SCP30 - currently £26,822 pro rata.
